Bradley International Airport Parking Summary

One month after closing as result of the Sept. 11 attacks, Bradley International Airport is set to reopen both the parking garage and short-term lot near Terminal B. The two parking areas, which provide a combined total of 1919 parking spaces for airport patrons, were closed when the Federal Aviation Administration ordered all U.S. airports to leave parking spaces within 300 feet of terminals vacant. Travelers should be aware that the following security restrictions remain in place:

  • No luggage or packages will be allowed in the parking garage or short-term surface lot within 300 feet of the terminal.
  • If traveling with another person(s), first drop passengers and luggage at curbside so they can attend the luggage, and then proceed to either the parking garage or surface lot.
  • Passengers traveling alone with luggage must proceed to lots or that portion of the garage, which is beyond 300 feet of the terminal, since luggage cannot be left unattended at curbside.
  • Parking in the garage and short-term surface lot will be available for full-size sedans, station wagons, and smaller automobiles that otherwise meet all qualifications.
  • Vehicles parking in the short-term portion of the garage or short-term surface lot will have to consent to vehicle inspection.
  • Sport utility vehicles, i.e., Broncos, Blazers, Explores, etc., and vans and trucks must park beyond 300 feet of the terminal.
  • Any vehicle with tinted or masked glass must also park beyond 300 feet of the terminal.

New Security Restrictions at Bradley International Airport

Bradley International Airport was reopened on Sept. 13 after being closed down in the wake of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Although the Federal Aviation Administration has authorized the resumption of air travel, most airlines have not rescheduled flights. Passengers departing from Bradley should contact their airlines to ascertain the status of their flights.

Short-term and long-term parking is available on a limited basis in the parking garage. Long-term Lot #6 is closed for construction. However, other long-term surface parking areas are available with shuttle service to the terminal.

Important points to remember:

Curbside check-ins will not be permitted, and all passengers must check in at each airline’s respective ticket counter. Passengers must not proceed to the gates without first checking in at the ticket counter.

A valid picture form of identification is required at the check-in counter. Be prepared to offer another form of identification if requested by the airline.

Bradley International Airport advises travelers with confirmed reservations on rescheduled flights to allow additional time prior to their flight to accommodate newly established security measures.

Only ticked passengers will be allowed through security areas.

Bradley International Airport urges travelers to confirm that they have a rescheduled flight before departing for the airport. For more information, visit www.bradleyairport.com for a listing of telephone numbers for airlines at Bradley.

DECD Commissioner James F. Abromaitis Meets with
Ambassador Koby A. Koomson of Ghana

Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner
James F. Abromaitis met on June 1st with H. E. Koby A. Koomson, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana, and representatives of First International Bank to discuss ideas and perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing U.S. businesses in Ghana. "Although challenging, Africa offers untapped resources and potential opportunities that can be achieved through persistence and a willingness to capture these opportunities," said Commissioner Abromaitis. In 1999, U.S. companies exported $235.1 million of goods to Ghana, up 5% over 1998. Connecticut companies exported $3.6 million during the same period, up 52.8% over 1999. Chemical products, fabricated metal products and transportation equipment are the major Connecticut export markets. Some of the best prospects for non-agricultural goods and services are as follows: Telecommunications Equipment, Electric Power Systems, Computers and Peripherals, Automobiles/Light Trucks, and Construction and Earth Moving Equipment.

The Republic of Ghana has been targeted by the U.S. Ex-Im Bank as a key market for U.S. exporters. The Ex-Im Bank has made a commitment to expand its business base in Africa. In 1999, Ex-Im Bank approved more than $145 million in financing to sub-Saharan Africa. A significant portion of this financing was focused on Ghana. First International Bank has an active and successful program in Africa and is the leading U.S. Ex-Im Bank lender. In 1999, First International Bank booked 80 percent of all Ex-Im Bank transactions in Ghana. Stephen M. Greene, Senior Vice President for the Middle East and Africa, First International Bank, and member of Connecticut's Africa Advisory Committee, said, "I am very enthusiastic about Africa business opportunities. Africa represents a huge potential for Connecticut companies."

"Connecticut is very enlightened to develop a program to facilitate two-way trade and investment with Africa. This approach certainly will help Connecticut companies interested in Ghana," said Ambassador Koomson. Ghana is a small West African country that has approximately 19 million people and is about the size of Oregon. It is well endowed with natural resources, and has twice the per capita output of the poorer countries in West Africa. It is a constitutional democracy that will have general elections in December, 2000
